The Red Cross refugee crisis team urgently requests care kits for groups of 400-600 Ukrainian refugees staying temporarily in the emergency shelter at the MECC (conference center) in Maastricht.
MECC is housing these groups for 72-hour emergency stays until probably 23 April. They have a critical lack of personal hygiene items, so any help is welcome. The MHS Student Council are organising a collection. Secondary students have designed receptacles to be placed at AIS today (Monday 28 March) to collect complete care kits, care kit items, shower shoes, and stuffed toys.
New shower shoes and stuffed toys are also welcome. Each refugee child at the MECC receives a stuffed toy.
Handing incomplete care kits is great, but individual items are welcome as students can assemble care kits. Also, Stef Bouchoms, one of our former gate guards will deliver book bags/backpacks to Ukrainian refugees in Poland. He plans to leave during the Easter break. Book bags/backpacks can also be placed in the receptacles.
Items can be handed in at school until Friday 1 April.
If anyone wants to support this initiative with their class or organization, they are welcome to!
