Inspiring Respect, Resilience and the ability to Think and Act Inclusively in our international environment

Library

The school library provides a quiet, bright, stimulating environment for students and staff and constitutes an important part of the educational provision at AIS.

The mission of our school library is to inspire and encourage a lifelong love of reading and learning in our school community, whilst supporting and enhancing the delivery of the curriculum. It has a stimulating influence on both staff and students who use it during lessons and study periods.

Students of all years use the available materials and facilities to work on assignments, with or without the aid of computers, to study or just to read a book or a periodical. They enjoy accessing the sizeable collection of books, magazines and reference materials supported by up-to-date IT facilities for research and IT-assisted learning.

Developing Reading and Thinking Skills

The library occupies a central area in the school. The Central Information Desk, providing support for students and teachers and a work area for administrative activities, is situated in the middle, dividing the library into primary and secondary sections. Students can borrow materials from both sections.

The school’s full-time librarians work collaboratively with teachers to create authentic learning opportunities within the programme of inquiry for students to develop their research and thinking skills. The library strives to be a learning hub that is an integral part of the school community, providing an intellectually and culturally open environment to promote curiosity and international mindedness.

Promoting The Love of Reading

Our younger students have weekly library lessons where they can choose books to take home for reading for pleasure while our older students utilize the self check out system to select and renew books at their leisure.  Throughout the year the library also arranges special events to promote a love of reading in our school community, some of this year’s events have included book fairs, World Book Week, Battle of the Books and Reading Hall of Fame.
