US Elementary School

DoDEA offers a wide range of classes and curriculum to help students meet the challenges in dynamic, global environment. DoDEA classes are facillitated by highly trained professionals within our school building as well as within the community and through our virtual educational opportunities.

Welcome Lions!

Welcome to AFNORTH International School – Elementary Section! Our focus is on meeting the academic and developmental needs of all students. Our school is dedicated to helping our students become efficient problem solvers, decision makers, and dynamic thinkers. We provide an environment that encourages exploration and discovery to help children learn about the world in which they live. We strive to help children grow into global citizens who value diversity and promote a culture of respect. We are very proud of the educational atmosphere which prevails throughout AFNORTH – one that is safe, orderly, clean, and student-centered.

Parents are always welcome in the school and I encourage you to become an active volunteer in our school. We seek your assistance in helping us to improve the quality and effectiveness of the educational experiences, opportunities, and school environment that we offer to students.

Please take a moment and join the Parent/Teacher Organization. The PTO works diligently to help provide the best educational experience for all the students. Your involvement will enhance and enrich the lives of the children we serve. Our students are successful because of a caring and dedicated staff that develops and fosters positive relationships with the students and their families. Together, we can make a difference!

Again, we welcome you to AFNORTH International School. We look forward to sharing highly successful and enjoyable experiences with you throughout the school year. If you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher, the guidance counselor, or me. When parents and teachers work together, children benefit greatly!

Looking forward to a great school year!

Curriculum and Programs

In keeping with the DoDEA mission to provide an exemplary education that inspires and prepares all our students for success in a dynamic, global environment, the DoDEA Curriculum Content Standards and the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) provide the framework for academic excellence. Our curriculum translates the standards in to a sequenced series of statements about what students will learn through their school experiences.

Additional information pertaining to DoDEA programs and standards can be found by visiting the DoDEA Curriculum Programs page. The courses listed below are offered at our school.

The DoDEA Information Technology Vision is:

To revitalize and energize our IT organization by delivering reliable, secure, high-performing and cost-effective networks and services to our students, teachers, and staff. DoDEA IT will be a customer-focused, agile, and responsive organization dedicated to mission accomplishment and business transformation.

DoDEA IT will be recognized among its peers as a world class provider of infrastructure and services, in support of the innovative use of technology for learning.

Information Center

The role of the DoDEA School Library Information Center program is to support the DoDEA mission of Educate, Engage and Empower military-connected students to succeed in a dynamic world. This mission is achieved by:

  • Providing access to diverse print and digital resource materials that are aligned to the DoDEA curriculum and engage student interest;
  • Providing library services and literacy programming that fosters a love of reading, curiosity and lifelong learning;
  • Engaging learners with essential information literacy skills; and
  • Collaborating with educators to design learning strategies and deliver instruction that meets the needs of the military-connected child.

The American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries guide DoDEA library programs. The standards focus on Six Shared Foundations – Inquire, Include, Collaborate, Curate, Explore, and Engage, which highlight the standard’s core educational concepts. These standards support CCRS across all content areas.

  • Inquire: Build new knowledge by inquiring, thinking critically, identifying problems, and developing strategies for solving problems.
  • Include: Demonstrate an understanding of commitment to inclusiveness and respect for diversity in the learning community.
  • Collaborate: Work effectively with others to broaden perspectives and work toward common goals.
  • Curate: Make meaning for oneself and other by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance.
  • Explore: Discover and innovate in a growth mindset developed through experience and reflection.
  • Engage: Demonstrate safe, legal, and ethical creating and sharing of knowledge products independently while engaging in a community of practice and an interconnect world.
