Dear Parents, Students and Community,
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to thank our parents and community for their continuous support as we have steered through another challenging year of the global pandemic. I am delighted that we are returning to many of AIS’s usual practices, and it is wonderful to see so many parents visiting and joining in with school activities.
My role as Director and fulfilling the UK’s five-year tenure is ending, and I pass the baton on to the US. It has been a privilege to serve such a unique international community. My successor Dr Judith Allen will find our AIS students genuinely incredible young people who will make a difference in the world, and our AIS families and community equally enthusiastic and supportive. She will also find a highly talented group of staff dedicated and committed to giving their best to make school an exceptional experience for every child. I wish all our students, parents, and the community a happy and successful future wherever you are in the world and send these good wishes with a heartfelt thank you and deep appreciation of the privileged time I have been blessed to share with you.
We are now looking forward to a week full of celebrations of AIS students’ successes and achievements. We particularly congratulate our AIS Graduates, who will celebrate tonight in a unique and memorable ceremony. We wish them all great success in their futures.
Looking back on the year, our students are enjoying the establishment of a house system, and several new outdoor recreational areas, including our friendship garden’s latest addition of the Friendship Garden Atalanta. We have completed the installation of a fibre-optic cabling refurbishment alongside a new network, server and WIFI. This significant investment ensures greater security, reliable communication, and high-speed internet capability necessary to support all students in new ways of learning using technology. Two new science labs have been renovated, and the school library has had a new image and is now preparing for a refurbishment in the coming years. The upgrade to classroom smart boards and phase 1 of the roof placement has been completed. In addition, the LED light replacement programme and audio/sound improvements has commenced, and new skylights throughout the building to provide improved ventilation are underway.
Returning in August 2022
Please refer to the school website and your national offices for information on the new school year. If you require the parent portal password, it can be obtained through the National Sections. The National Sections should be your first point of contact if you have any queries.
As we approach the summer break, we hope you and your families will be able to enjoy some much-needed family time together. On behalf of the Directorate and staff, we wish families who are leaving AFNORTH International School all the best for the future, and we look forward to seeing students returning on Monday, 15 August 2022.
