3 October, German Reunification – National Holiday
On 3 October, Germany celebrated their National Holiday: the German Reunification. Although it is a German National Holiday, for the German Section of the AFNORTH International School it was school as “normal”.
During the assembly, there was music and a group of students, staff, and parents who were invited to talk about living in the DDR, the German Democratic Republic. It is hard to imagine the difference between the freedom of West Germany and the strict regime of East Germany, now 34 years ago.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Germany had a peaceful reunification, where they chose the 3rd of October as their National Holiday.
