On one auspicious day in June, each year, AFNORTH Grade 12/Senior students celebrate their transition to their next stages of learning at the AFNORTH International School Graduation Ceremony. This intimate ceremony is an eagerly awaited event and provides the opportunity for families and friends of our Graduates to pause and reflect on this magnificent milestone in life.

The AFNORTH school band provides musical accompaniment for the staff and graduate processional and recessional element of the occasion, and for the talented musicians singing the US, Canadian, and Dutch national anthems. The JROTC Cadets add an extra special touch by forming a Saber Team archway for the processional.

A montage of parent-selected photographs chronicling each Graduate’s life thus far is projected on screen while short messages of love, support, encouragement, nostalgia, or humour from parents are displayed as each graduate walks across the ceremonial stage to accept their Diplomas. A special guest shares some wise words and personal experiences with the Graduates to encourage and support them in their future adventures and next steps of their journey.

At AFNORTH, Commencement is more than just a rite of passage. It is truly a special multinational community event, and an exemplary display of international collaboration, NATO Military support and a celebration of our Values in action.

The University and Alumni representatives visit AFNORTH and come from many parts of Europe, including The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Spain as well as Canada and the US. They provide students an opportunity to speak with school representatives right here at AFNORTH. The event has become an inspiring evening and is now an eagerly awaited annual event in the AFNORTH calendar.
