STEAM: Innovators, Educators, Leaders, and Learners of the 21st Century

STEAM is an integrated educational approach that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as the foundation of exploration and learning. Historically, STEM practices have been adopted in many schools. In more recent years there has been a movement to include the Arts as well, since very few professions work in isolation, and there is a need to create inclusive learning environments that are dynamic, authentic and relevant to the real world.

Hands-on activities, inquiry and collaboration

At AFNORTH International School we believe that STEAM opportunities will prepare our students better for success and to become productive members of society moving into the 21st century. With the STEAM approach, learning requires an intentional connection between curriculum expectations, assessments and lesson design.

Ideally STEAM teachings involve two or more of the subject areas being taught collaboratively and connectively. As in STEM activities, STEAM focus on hands-on activities and inquiry, collaborative planning, including a cross-section of teachers on each team.
