The AFNORTH US Elementary and Middle/High sections are members of the US Department of Defense schools (DoDEA), and are located in Brunssum, Limburg, the Netherlands, in the heart of Northwest Europe – an area which is often referred to as “the balcony of Europe”, or “land without frontiers” because of its easy access to several countries.
AFNORTH International School was founded in September 1967 and provides education for over 860 children of JFC HQ Brunssum, NATO Air Base Geilenkirchen, other NATO personnel serving in the Netherlands, and families working in international companies in this region.
Our schools are sections of AFNORTH International School (AIS) which is comprised of educational institutions of 4 nations: United States, Canada, Germany, and United Kingdom. AIS has a long and proud tradition of excellence in academics, the arts, extracurricular activities, and learning how to live in a multicultural world. From the very first day of school all students should use each minute to learn from the teachers, make new friends, develop new skills, participate in all the activities, and use the resources available at AIS and in the local communities.
