As you are aware the Dutch government has eased some of their restrictions regarding school closures and provided a timeline for the partial and adjusted way in which this can be undertaken. While respecting and adhering to the Dutch national requirements as much as possible, AIS would have to coordinate a timeline for the reopening of school in a way that ensures the requirements and expectations for all our national sections are met. Such a procedure can only be undertaken where it is safe and realistic to do so.
Following the careful consideration of all the requirements and expectations involved, and after working closely with health officials, military leaders, and our host nation partners the Board of Governors has confirmed that AIS will remain closed until the end of our school year. This decision has been taken by the four national sections following a review of the social distancing restrictions, the staffing challenges, and the different national sections rules and expectations for the safe continuation of a modified and limited programme. The prime concern remains the safety of the children in these times of uncertainty.
The Board of Governors and the Management Team recognise that this may be unexpected news for some of our students and their families. Please be assured that this decision has been made with the health and safety of our AIS students and our diverse community in mind. We will now continue to ensure our distance learning programmes continue to meet the needs of all our students and begin the preparation for the next steps in managing a successful end of school year for our current students and the opening of a new school year. We will keep you informed as these plans are finalised.
In the meantime, a friendly reminder to maintain the current restrictions in place and keep well and safe.
AIS Directorate on behalf of the Board of Governors.
